Welcome to Doric Lodge No. 2695

Doric Lodge Building

Step into a world of brotherhood, tradition, and service at Doric Lodge No. 2695, one of five Harrogate Masonic Craft Lodges. Located in the heart of North Yorkshire, our Lodge has stood proudly since its consecration on 23 March 1898.

Originally formed as a Medical and Professional Lodge, we welcomed members from Harrogate’s legal, accountancy, medical, and teaching professions. Today, our membership spans many walks of life—from retail and transport to hospitality, public service, and the private sector. Our Brethren range in age from their 20s to their 80s, and our post-meeting bar is always a hub of lively conversation.

We remain proud of our heritage and our commitment to Freemasonry and the Harrogate community. From our earliest days, we’ve upheld the values of strength, integrity, and unity.

Meetings and Gatherings

Doric Lodge meets on the third Friday of each month, with a break during July, August, and September. Meetings typically begin at 6:45 p.m., though this may vary if required. After the meeting, members enjoy a three-course meal—a tradition that once featured ten-course banquets in the early days!

Rehearsals are held on the two Thursdays prior to each meeting and offer an informal opportunity to meet and prepare together.

The History and Meaning Behind Our Banner

Doric Lodge Banner

The Doric banner displayed in our Temple carries profound symbolism. The two Doric columns supporting the Lodge name reflect the Doric order of architecture—regarded as the oldest and strongest of the five noble orders.

At its top, the Square and Compasses—a universally recognised Masonic symbol—remind us of the lessons within our rituals. The Coat of Arms shown on the banner was used by Harrogate in 1898 and features roundels representing healing springs, with serpents symbolising their medicinal properties.

The crest draws from a 15th-century banner once granted to a corporation of physicians, honouring our Lodge’s founding members.

Getting to Know the Lodge

We understand that joining a Lodge is a personal and important step. That’s why we take time to welcome new members informally—through casual meetups such as curry and pie nights, and conversations before or after rehearsals.

Our calendar includes a wide variety of social events: summer barbecues, golf days, treasure hunts, clay pigeon shoots, weekends away, theatre visits, and family-friendly pantomimes. Many of these events are open to family and friends, fostering lasting bonds among our members.

Membership Requirements

Membership is open to men aged 18 and over who are of good character, with no criminal convictions. A belief in a Supreme Being or spiritual principle is also required, in keeping with Masonic values.

We ask that members show a spirit of friendship and charity and participate at their own pace. Questions are always welcome. Everyone contributes as they are able—there is no pressure to perform or take on roles before you’re ready.

Fellowship Without Division

To ensure a welcoming and respectful atmosphere, we do not discuss religion or politics during our gatherings. Our focus is on unity, learning, and shared experience. Whether at Lodge, the bar, or festive board, we value companionship above all.
